Game Recap: Baseball |

CLEMSON, S.C. – Taking to Doug Kingsmore Stadium for the second time this season, USC Upstate baseball closed out its season series with the Tigers by downing the unanimous No. 2 team in the nation, slugging four home runs in the 9-5 Tuesday victory.

Scoring all nine of its runs via the long ball, the Spartans began the scoring early as redshirt sophom*ore designated hitter Noah Sullivan hit the first of his two homers, lacing a ball down the leftfield line to open the scoring in the second. He'd later answer a Clemson homer with his second of the night, another big blast to left, completing his fourth career multi-home run effort.

Breaking up the pace of solo shots and single-run innings, freshman catcher Tyler Lang hit his second big fly of the season, leaving the yard to left-center as his three-run shot staked Upstate to a 5-2 advantage. Though the Tigers fought back with a pair of homers to tie the game in the seventh, the Spartans responded by seeing each of the first four batters of the eighth reaching, all brought home with one swing of the bat, a grand slam from redshirt junior rightfielder Koby Kropf.

Heading back out with the lead, redshirt junior right-hander Jake Cubbler retired the final six batters he faced, icing the victory. He finished the night with five strikeouts—his second consecutive outing with five punchouts—earning three strikeouts over his final six outs of the night.

  • Hitting a pair of homers in his first two at-bats, Noah Sullivan recorded his fourth career multi-homer game, tying teammate Jace Rinehart for the most multi-homer games by a Spartan in the Division I era (2007-pres.). His multi-homer game is his second of the season and is the program's first against a Power-Five opponent.
  • With his two homers giving him 10 long balls on the season, Sullivan becomes the fourth Spartan with double-digit home runs in 2024. The four players with 10-plus homers this season surpass the team's total of three double-digit homer seasons entering the year.
